6 Things to Love about DC in the Summertime

You might not know it from the news right now, but there’s a lot more to DC than bluster. A whole lot more. Here, our baristas from our DC cafes weigh in on what makes them love the city in the summertime—and year-round.

1 Upbeat (Even in the Heat)

"I really love the vibe at the underground VIP Hip Hop Showcases at Velvet Lounge. Everyone can be real and chill together. It's a hidden secret of DC."

—Monica from Georgetown

2 Never Be Bored

My favorite thing about DC is the accessibility to art and culture, from museums to pop-up art installations to amateur live music.

—Riley from Logan Circle

3 From the Alleyways to Cafes

The jazz! The community is welcoming and warm, like an open family where anybody is welcome no matter your skill level or jazz knowledge. It’s not just home to some of the best talent in the country, it also draws some of the world’s greatest musicians. The icing on the cake? The DC jazz scene and the city’s coffee culture go together like peanut butter and jelly.

—Steve from Union Station

4 Play Tourist

One of my favorite things to do when I have family  here is take them on the Duck bus. It takes you all around DC. The best part about it is when the Duck spreads its ‘feet’ and takes us on the water. Not only do we have noise quackers, we have time to enjoy being with family.

—Raina from Midtown Center

5 Beauty In Plain Sight

It's hard to pick just one thing I love most in DC. But if I had to choose, it would be the scenery. One of my favorite things to do is to bike the Mount Vernon Trail along the Virginia side of the Potomac River, and look at the monuments across the pond. Do it during sunrise or sunset, and you’ll really appreciate the beauty of DC.

—Javy from The Wharf

6 America Is Great

My favorite thing by far is the acceptance of diversity in all people, from the business and food communities to the city as a whole.

—Sammi from Union Market
