We're Open

A Letter from Blue Bottle CEO Bryan Meehan

I’m proud to announce that we have begun the careful and phased reopening of our US cafes. Starting May 22, we are offering contactless takeaway orders only for sidewalk pickup at select California locations. In the coming weeks, we are rolling out the model to the East Coast, and will evolve the model as we learn from our guests and teams.

New times require new models of care. As our daily habits are changing, throughout this crisis our highest priority has remained unchanged—to offer care and hospitality for anyone that needs it, a shelter from the storm. For us today, hospitality also means safety. When we closed our US cafes in March, we did so to protect our guests and our teams. We knew we would only reopen when it felt safe to do so.

So how do you measure safety in today’s environment? We looked to three guideposts: government guidance, our safety protocols, and the sentiments of our teams. We knew that we couldn’t reopen at our high level of hospitality without our cafe teams feeling ready to extend it. This first phase represents the culmination of weeks of planning from our operations teams, as well as a clear vote of confidence from our cafe teams in our plan.

To ensure safety, we’re beginning the first phase with takeaway-only ordering and a sidewalk pickup process primarily via our iOS app. Among the many heightened safety measures include a contactless ordering experience, social distancing inside and outside the cafe, and face coverings required for pickup. We will continue to monitor the situation and will change course as the situation requires. As always, our most profound gratitude goes to all fighting this epidemic on the front lines, ensuring our lasting safety and protection.
